Using System Restore |
| System Restore- How Far Back Should I Restore To? In the past 2 weeks we have had 2 people, who, were in need of restoring their computers to an earlier date Sooz Mom, for one whose computer we updated and got back in ship shape around Thanksgiving,...and Jer's Sister In Both cases they Restored their computers way farther back than they needed to Why? We don't Know We suggest you Figure out the date you made changes, added a questionable program or did something to your computer which might have caused it to act up Select the day before that...No Earlier! This is the option when there seems to be Nothing you can do to Fix whatever is messing up your Computer and you have tried everything In other words Using System Restore is a last - ditch effort when everything else you tried has failed The main mistake we see people doing is Taking the Restore Point Back Too Far You should only take it back to a point just before where it began acting up The reason is all the Windows and Security Updates you have done since then...will need to be redone You will also lose any settings you might have changed. Using the Wizard To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, point to All Programs, then point to Accessories, then point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. You can Create a Restore Point by selecting Create a Restore Point. Undo the Last Restoration Select Undo Last Restoration. If you have done a restoration recently, the Undo My Last Restoration option will be displayed in the System Restore list. With this Option you can Undo your most Recent Restoration. You will Only have this Option After you have done a restoration. Remember when it says to re start do it right away Be patient, there is a lot of information being transferred. If it looks as if it has stopped half way through Don't Worry! Give it more time,...maybe go and do other things for a while If you get stuck or confused don't hesitate to use the Help section which should be at the right top corner of the System Restore Menu If it is any easier you might want to copy & paste the instructions onto Microsoft Word or Notepad and Print them for easier reference. This way you won't have to open any windows while System Restore is running JerSooz Website for more Helpful Tips. |
