Race to build the Fastest Supercomputer is on!

An article in C.N.N. News claims the USA will now step up the race to end the 2 year lead the Japanese might have...in the race to build the fastest, or ultrafast computer. The race is on!

The US Federal Department of Energy with the aid of 3 Civilian Contractor companies...The Government has already put up a grant of over $50 million dollars towards ultra fast computer reasearch to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.

That's seems like lot of money!...JerSooz thinks this just a plunk in the bucket for the long time benefit that will be reaped all being positive in nature

Attributes about this "Super Computer Race" may include:

Benefits to space research and study
Added funding for computer research which will increase the likelihood of breakthroughs in medical research.
The more research on the supercomputer as it is referred to will inevitably improve the quality of life...for every nation.
Product Developement time periods will be shortened and lead to less expensive product production costs
Engineering design will enhance safety not only in automobiles...public transportation but also buildings...houses...everyday community development
Schools on all Levels from Elementary to University...Trade Schools...will see enhanced learning principles applied from research

These are just some of the benefits if properly shared that will be a benefit to all...truly a win win situation all the way around

Not only will scientists and medical researchers benefit, but consumers will be better off by having better faster computers available for our use

In a lot of ways this race is a good example of how competition can encourage greater achievment...the USA already has 9 of the 10 Fastest Computers in the world

It creates an environment where different nations, through competing to have the ultrafast computer, are helping each other to speed up research in an area that will benefit us all.

Learn to be a Team Player

When we see others exceeding our own expectations of ourselves we can then adjust our perception of what we are capable of.

You know, if he or she can do that then maybe I can too!

A lot of times another person on the same track as us can enlighten us in an area where we have reached a standstill,
by revealing how they figured something out or got a certain result.

In other words, by keeping an eye on your competition,
with an open mind, of course, you can:

Learn from their mistakes
Use their research and techniques,
See a different approach which might help you over...
stumbling blocks of your own.

Team Up With Your Competition

Taking this one step further, when you work with, share ideas and thoughts with your competition you will get better results sooner.

Two Heads Are Better Than One...
is a saying that sums it up!

There are a quite a few sayings about team effert and it's importance.
Here are two of our favorites:

Firstly the one, "There is no 'I' in team" comes to mind.

Face it, if all you think, talk, and care about is yourself you are not a team player! Have you ever sat and listened to someone who goes on and on talking about themselves...I-this and I-that?

How long do they keep your interest?
Not very long probably. The reason is what they are saying does not involve you, and they are not involving you in it. What good will this do you you are thinking.

Talk With, Not At Others, Your Results Improve

When we are being talked at, instead of being talked with or talked to...we stop listening. We want to at least have the impression that we actually are a part of a conversation, and the other party is even remotely interested in what we might be thinking or what we have to say.

Part of being a team player is sharing it is true,
but there should be equal conversation,
not 1-way (or talking at someone) conversation going on.

Think about it! If you know you can not get a word in edgewise,
and the other party doesn't care what your thoughts/comments are,
how long are you going to stay interested in this conversation?
Not very long, right?

This can go both ways, if you are the one doing the talking at, then it isn't a beneficial conversation to you either because instead of them sharing their ideas with you they are more likely to turn a deaf ear, and you won't know their perspectives.

The other person is not going to burst in, say "shut up while I offer these savvy words of wisdom from my experience that might help you". They are more likely to hurry up and get out of the conversation and move on.

If sharing information/ideas equals teamwork you have to practice 2 way conversation. At best this is referred to as brainstorming.

Which leads us to the second saying

T.E.A.M. means "Together Everyone Achieves More"
