Beginnings

Projects Are Prioritized

The number of Spring Cleaning projects is always more than we would like to admit

We finally narrowed ours down to the front and back yards.

It seemed an easy enough task to start by pruning the trees in the front yard. That is until we looked at our tools

Our chainsaw had a dull, loose chain which had never worked right, and the leaf-blower would not run.

So, we decided to shop around for a new chainsaw on the Internet

It is so easy to check and compare prices and deals on the Internet!The internet puts the old phrase "let your fingers do the walking" to shame!

We saw an ad for an 18" Craftsman chainsaw at

This is so cool because it is simple and saves You money!

Just go to the coupon page, print out a coupon
(ours was for $30.00)
bring it in, and hand it to the cashier when you buy the item.

When we went to OSH, they had 1 chainsaw left!

Craftsman 18" 42cc Gas Chain Saw

The Chain saw was listed at $189 but with $30 in store rebate brought it to $159

What also was great and blew us away was...it has its own tool box comes in to carry not only the saw but the other things Craftsman gives you in this package

Such as great craftsman tot bag to carry the gloves...eye and ear protection... they provide...plus 1 gallon gas treatment...extra chain...also a quart bottle of bar chain oil...a chain adjustment tool all you have to do is mix the gas and your ready to do the job vroooooom vroooom

We also recommend if never used a chain saw

add these to your list...buy an extra chain (chain saw chains...buy by how many links your current one has)additional bar chain oil, gas oil/mix and eye/ear protection for additional helpers

Plus a real helper is a Chainsaw sharpener...this is merely a file you file links at 30 degrees with...if can find it...they have a great Bar Guide with angles can lay over chain and just as quickly sharpen the saw...just find the one that works for your chain

Checkup for old buddies

Next we took the leaf-blower to the small engine repair shop to have it fixed...seems modern technology...the little squirt bulb for the gas primer on Our Homelite cracked and needed to be fixed

Lets just say that funny little bulb just can't buy off shelf at Home Depot can't get it at Lowes or even OSH

Seems that funny bulb depends on make of Carburetor thats installed...so save yourself time and take it to a small repair shop

Make Some New Friends

We so far have gone to 2 great shops...1st for our old McCulloch 16 inch chain saw...who told us We had 1 chain link to many on ours was why coming loose

This guy was fantastic took the old McCulloch started tweaking this and that had it going in no time plus didn't charge us a dime for his work even though we offered

Funny thing was like all we do...we check the internet first and he was listed under our local listings...not even 2 miles from the house

We told him saw him listed on internet and he said yeah people tell me that all the time and don't know how I got there...seems he doesn't know the 1st thing about internet but loves the extra people it sends

2nd Guy fixing the Blower who claims uses only Homelite products...yeah a real hoot to talk to...40 years in Business same location...heck uses his blower to blow out the dirt in his shop...heck we thought we were only ones to do that...just watch using in house it knocks stuff off the shelves...just kidding

So far so good, we were ready to begin, right?

The Work Begins

As we began cutting limbs the front yard started to look like a tornado had hit

We had a yardfull of giant tree branches and limbs covering every inch

Our chipper-shredder was lugging down and binding from the stringy green shoots from the branches we were cutting off

It didn't help of having to take the chipper-shredder apart 3 times to pick out the limbs wrapped around the shaft!

So, to save time and headaches, the last load went to the dump!

We stacked the rounds in the carport to dry for Bar B Que winding down the first day of spring projects.

Aches Pains & Time

It took days to get the actual work done

Buying all the accessories, and tools needed were one full day

The actual work took one day, and we still didn't get the chance
to mow the lawn or pick up the leaf-blower

Haven't finished the back yard either!
We bet you are asking, "was it worth it?"

Our answer: "Of Course it was worth it!
It was a good beginning and worth every single minute!"

We got a lot done, a little exercise
and some great California sunshine first time this year!

Great Tip...for that Sun Burn add 1 cup Vinegar to tub full of Bath water or paper towel some on sun burn...you will be amazed how takes sting away then apply aloe vera to moisturize burnt area

2nd Great Tip...Trim the trees before leaves are present...usually mid November to December in California this job should be completed...try to plan ahead or schedule a tree trimming service to do your work

Money we saved doing ourselves paid for our new chain saw...this is sweat equity at its best...plus the pride of a job you did can be seen

Getting Ready to Paint the House

The other great product we bought was a Wagner Paint Crew airless sprayer...this is a great paint sprayer being it holds 2 gallons of paint and sprays at 2750 psi what the true professionals use

Secret to a paint sprayer is PSI pounds per square inch rating is the pressure that paint is applied the higher rating the more it adheres to surface applying it to

Email with GOOD NEWS sent March 23rd, 2004
Subject: Wonderful, wonderful!!!!

Our Glorious Physician, Creator of the Universe and all that is in it,
has worked miracles this week that are more than I ever would have imagined possible!
Not only is Mikey awake and communicating by way of white board and markers,
yesterday was a red-letter day;
he WALKED!!!!!!
Yes, he had a walker and a nurse on either side of him, but he walked.
They kept asking him if he wanted to stop,
and he kept shaking his head no.
So, it turned out that the first time he had walked in 10 days
was a 33 foot stroll down the hospital corridor!!!!!!!!!!

To follow that up, he aced his "swallowing test" and ate a real meal of mashed potatoes and gravy,
mac and cheese and cut up TURKEY!!!!!!
Not bad for a kid who was in a coma just over 4 days ago!!!!!!

We are daily amazed at what God is doing with Mikey's healing, and we are so very grateful for the prayers that everyone is saying for him.
Oh, and for those of you who refuse to believe me when I tell you that I'm fine;
I walked to this computer without even using my crutches this morning!!!!! :-)
