The best way to protect Your computer from Lightning is to Unplug it when and if there is a threat of Lightning in Your area

Are You Surge-Protected?

When you plug in your computer are You plugging directly in to the wall outlet?

Hopefully when You set up Your Computer You included in Your Purchase a Surge Protector and have it installed

Simply put a Surge Protector is a Electrical device...that will hopefully prevent Electrical Surges from effecting Your Computer or other Electrical Devices

Most are Multi Outlet and look like a PowerStrip/Box... designed to serve one pretty obvious function -- they let you plug in more than 1 component to a power outlet with protection via one single power wall outlet

This may seem like a bit of overkill but trust Us when lightening strikes or a Jolt in electrical surge happens even 2 Surge Protectors might not be enough...Mother Nature can make You Pay the Dues to Sing the Blues!...So Please Check if Protected...Please keep reading

"What are surges?"

You might ask, And , "Why do my computer/electronics need to be protected from them?"

A power surge, (also called a transient voltage) is an increase in voltage that is well above what amount is supposed to be in a circuit.

In a normal house or office in the United States, for instance, the standard voltage is 115 to 120 volts.

If the voltage rises above 115 or 120 volts, there is a problem, and a Surge Protector helps to prevent that problem from destroying your computer,house or office wiring.

Generally Speaking the parts of your computer are at risk from Surges if You do not use something in-between the possible "surge" and your equiptment

More about Electric Current

Electric current flows, sort of like water...in the path of the least resistance

If there is more pressure on one end (say, like in a hose) then it will push the water through to the other end

Voltage is like measuring the amount of pressure...just like you would with water

It travels from point to point because there is a greater electric potential energy on one end of the wire than there is on the other end. Voltage is a measure of electrical pressure.

When the amount of current exceeds the capacity of the wiring or components

Here is where you run into serious trouble...When too much electrical pressure runs through a wire the wire explodes. It heats up like the filament in a light bulb and burns.

The same goes with your computer and it's components

Even if the increased voltage doesn't immediately ruin Your machine, it may put extra strain on the components, which will wear them down...weakening them.

Get what You Need

If You use computers, microwaves and DVD players Our advice is if You do not have Surge Protection get it Now!

First make sure your choice has Underwriters Laboratories (UL) ratings.

UL is associated with the Fire Protection Safety and a non profit company that tests electric and electronic products ...for safety

If you do not see a UL label forget it! Make sure also that the what ever model you pick is listed as a Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor.

This means that it meets certain UL standards for surge suppressors.

There are a lot of power strips listed by the UL that have no surge protection components at all.

So, to be safe make sure what You are buying is not just listed for use as extension cords.
